All the advances in technology can easily be seen in the accessibility of radar data and images.

There are lots of good sources for radar information, here are just a few of our favorites.

Weather Underground’s WunderMap – (Full Screen when using Chrome) Lots of features, seems to have occasional problems loading radar images but it is still top of the list. ALSO DISPLAYS LIGHTNING activity.

Weather Underground’s Older Radar Map – (no longer advertised but still great) Does NOT seem to suffer the same problem as their WunderMap.

National Weather Service’s Radar.

GRLevel3 – Storm Chaser quality software with tons of features. GRLevel3 is priced at $80 per computer (windows only).

StormPredator – A great desktop radar program for windows. StormPredator is only $40 per computer (windows only).

RadarScope – A desktop radar program designed for Apple users. $30 per computer through iTunes.

Android Users:

PYKL3 Radar – Storm Chaser quality software for your Android devices. $10 through Google Play.

RadarScope – Just like the desktop version for Apple but made for Android Users. $10 through Google Play.

iOS Users:

RadarScope – Just like the desktop version for Apple but made for iOS Users. $10 through iTunes.

Most programs above work without needing a paid data feed, however under times of heavy loads the weather service servers may not be able to handle all the requests for radar data and your program may not update as frequently as normal if at all. Subscriptions for Level3 data (which is all we need) are available through companies such as Allison House (best known and most widely supported) and Caprock Weather. Check the specific program to see which data provider it supports.

Live lightning strike data (slight delay for processing and data transfer) can be displayed in most of the programs above and is typically include with a subscription for Level3 data.
